Reading about her birthday celebration, a reader commented:
“Sooo sweeet. My ex served with the Norfolk Fire Dept and retired a few years ago, Tommy Karas. These men and women share a wonderful, everlasting bond. Happy 100th Birthday Mrs. Carty!”
Another said,
“That is so special! If the Norfolk media didn't report that, they missed another great opportunity to relate to our people. Thankful that the firemen honor her this way!”
Huge appreciation to the Norfolk fire-rescue team for making Mrs. Jeanette smile and the community believe in small acts of kindness.
