The houses are designed to look like homes from that era, with added elements like rocking chairs, fiber-optic ceilings that transition from day to night sky, and grass-like carpet.

While it may give them a feeling of nostalgia, the interior is intentionally chosen to add therapeutic value in every corner for residents who have dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
It enables them to connect with early memories, even as they may be slowly losing memories of the present.
The environment also helps them cope with feelings of anxiety, depression, and anger by offering aromatherapy, aural therapy (such as the sound of birds chirping), and the use of lanterns to help residents perform daily activities like getting dressed, going on shopping trips, and participating in a cooking club.

At the end of the day, residents are given the opportunity to walk out onto their porch and greet their neighbors, a reminder to end the day by embracing their surroundings and emotions.
