To escape the daily threat and fear, Cara and her kids decided to find a safe space for themselves. However, when they realized how expensive the housing market is, they planned to build a house with their own hands.

But for Cara, the idea of building a house was planted in 2007 when she was passing by a house that had recently been hit by a tornado.

She thought to herself, “What if we bought some 2’ x 4’s and put that together? Would we want to build it and turn it into a dream house?”

Cara soon took a bank loan of $150,000 to buy the materials for the house, and they began the process of building their dream house.

All four kids and Cara herself were naive when it came to building anything, let alone a big house to live in. But that’s when they took advantage of the opportunity to learn it on YouTube.

They learned and performed different aspects of building a dream house, from how to frame a house to pouring a foundation.

Along the process, Cara revealed that they also learned how to communicate better and work like a team, which is a far more essential skill than anything else.

Cara and her kids have now been living in their new 3,500 square foot, five-bedroom house, titled ‘Inkwell Manor,’ for the past eight years, and it looks nothing less than a fairy-tale dream house.

Cara believed in dreaming big, that led her and the kids to turn their disguise into something better. If you believe life can get better, check out this mother who was reunited with her son whom she gave up for adoption, after 33 years.
