Hallie Cassady, 13, was sitting with her dad at a Chick-fil-A in Bowling Green, Kentucky, when a man walked in wearing shoes that were barely holding together.
“They were taped with duct tape, like completely,” Hallie later told WBKO.
She watched as the man stood in line.

As she looked around, another customer named Mark Townsend, got up from his table, walked over, removed his boots, and handed them to the man. He then walked back to his table in just his socks.
“At first I didn’t realize what was happening,” Hallie recalled. “I was like—did he really just give away his boots?”

She quickly grabbed her dad’s phone and took a photo of Mark sitting in his socks and finishing his meal. The moment struck them both.
“My dad and I were shocked,” she said. “I’ve never seen anything like that in real life.”
“So, I grabbed his (her dad's) phone and immediately took a picture of the man. I told dad, 'we gotta share this. This is an amazing story to let people know.”

After being tracked down to learn his reasons behind such a random act of kindness, Mark explained in an interview:
“My granddaughter asked me, ‘Pa, why’d you give him your boots?’” he said.
“And I told her, ‘Because God told me to.’ I just felt it. That man looked like he really needed them.”

He didn’t make a big deal about it and didn’t expect any attention.
"God said, I'll supply your needs, and that's all that matters. I don't worry about nothing. I have a roof over my head, shoes on my feet," he told WSAZ.
The man who received the boots quietly thanked Mark, put them on, and walked out.
