While many her age might dream of traveling to a special destination or meeting great-grandchildren, Edie’s unusual wish was simple, she wanted to be arrested.

Until this day, she had never set foot in the back of a police car.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department decided to help Edie check off her bucket list item.
One morning, Officer Patrick Clark pulled up beside Edie and asked, “Did you enjoy your ride this morning?” as she sat handcuffed in the back of the police car.
She laughed and replied, “Oh yes, handcuffs and all.”
“It’s these types of occasions where we’re more than happy to help,” said St. John McLaughlin from the Police Department. “We love it, and we often get more out of it than the seniors do.”

Later, Edie left a heartfelt message: “Don’t give up. Keep doing what you love, and spend some of your time helping the community. For the person you’re interacting with, you may be the only contact they have all day.”
