Barber Moves His Chair Outside for Overwhelmed 7-Year-old Boy With Autism

Brycen Juby, a 7-year-old boy, was diagnosed with autism and remained non-verbal until the age of five.

For years, his parents found it challenging to take him to the barber, so they resorted to cutting his hair at home.

“He would melt down every time,” recalls his mother, Ashley Juby. “It didn’t matter that we were doing it at home, he still found it overwhelming.”

However, Brycen was getting used to of the home service and his parents were concerned whether he would ever outgrow of this.

As Brycen turned 7, they thought it was time to take him to the barber to cut his overgrown hair and turn him picture perfect for his first day of school.

To make things less overwhelming for the boy, Ashley chose a lesser busy time of the day, 12 noon.

When Brycen arrived with his dad at the barbershop, Marco Conti, the owner of Marky Fresh Barbershop noticed that the boy had started to get overwhelmed, just as he stepped inside the barber shop.

"I could tell he felt more comfortable outside so I was like right off the cuff, 'What if we cut your hair outside? Would you feel more comfortable?'

He agreed.

I just wanted to make him feel safe and comfortable," Conti told Today parents.

The heartwarming picture of Conti trimming Brycen's hair  outside the barbershop went viral in 2019, when Conti shared it on his Facebook page.

Conti recently launched his first mobile barbershop in Ohio and has a big heart for children with special needs.

"We want everyone that comes in here to feel good and leave even better.”
