Teen Waitress Helps Elderly Customer To Cut His Ham, Get’s Awarded $16,000 Scholarship by the Mayor

Evoni Williams, 18, starts her morning waitressing at a Waffle House.

While it’s easy to get swept up in the routine rush and fulfilling customer orders, Williams’ act of kindness for an elderly man stood out, reminding us that human value matters far more than just meeting performance targets.

On a typical day at the Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, nothing seemed out of the ordinary, until Williams was noticed cutting ham for a customer.

Seated at the counter was an elderly man who appeared to have difficulty eating. “My hands aren’t working well today,” he told the 18-year-old waitress.

Without hesitation, Williams moved his plate closer to her and began cutting his ham.

A fellow customer, Laura Wolf, 46, touched by this quiet act of kindness, captured the moment and shared it on Facebook, quickly drawing widespread attention.

“It touched me. Because she’s so young.  I have four kids who would’ve done the same thing, but you just don’t always see something like this.”

Her simple gesture didn’t go unnoticed. The mayor of La Marque declared March 8th, 2018, as Evoni Williams Day. But there was more to come for her.

Texas Southern University surprised her with a $16,000, four-year scholarship after learning about her educational goals.

At just 18 years old, she found herself suddenly becoming a local celebrity, something she hadn’t anticipated at all.

“I wasn’t really expecting none of this,” Williams said in an interview. “Because I didn’t think anyone seen it. It was just little ol’ me going about the day.”

Eventually, Williams hopes to open her own restaurant, drawing on the years she’s already spent working in the service industry. Her goal? To continue helping others in any way she can.

“Always be helpful, as little or as much as you can,” she advised. “It doesn’t take much.”
