5 Short Stories Where Strangers Show They Care

We need more people in the world to show that they still care. Like mothers looking after their kids and finding love; a policeman being shown kindness; or a blind man reuniting with his emotional support dog after walking miles in search of him.

Stories like these have a way of calming the heart and reminding us to notice the goodness that still exists in the world.

1. Couple with Down syndrome had an emotional reunion after their moms secretly organized it.

The pair, Nick and Gabi, fell in love after meeting at a Down Syndrome Society conference in 2019. Since then, they had been in a long-distance relationship, as Nick lived in Ohio and Gabi in North Carolina.

After realizing their love for each other, both of their mothers surprised the couple with a visit. In a Facebook video, Nick was seen waiting at the airport in Ohio, thinking one of his friends would be arriving. But then Gabi descended the escalator, leaving him surprised. She immediately ran towards Nick, and the couple hugged lovingly, while Nick was still in disbelief.

Nick's mother, Lisa, wrote about the reunion on Facebook: “It’s truly remarkable that their relationship even blossomed, as neither Nick nor Gabi had ever been in a relationship before, nor did they have interest in having a relationship with someone with DS. But it truly was love at first sight!

People with DS have no ‘warm-up’ time when it comes to love… they lean in and love fully. I’ve never seen Nick so happy in his 30 years. We feel confident there will be wedding bells in their future. May God continue to bless these two.”

2. A Canadian cop went undercover in a wheelchair, leaving cash visible to attract thieves. Instead, he received money, prayers, and warnings, with zero arrests in five days.

Apparently, the police officer named Mark Horsley came in contact with 300 people asking him if he had someone to care for him or if he needed food. At one point, a man was seen crouching over him, making the cop nervous. But all he did was zip his jacket up. He also advised the police, "Please be careful with things."

3. Blind man reunites with his 14-year-old service dog that was stolen in Chicago, after a citywide search.

The dog's owner, Angel Santiago, made it his purpose to walk seven miles handing out missing flyers, hoping someone would see the dog. Angel, who manages Type 2 diabetes and is legally blind, believes that his dog was stolen from his yard.

Bam Bam returned to his owner after going missing for more than two months. The dog was dropped off at a police station, after which officers confirmed his identity through a microchip. The reunion captured the hearts of residents in Chicago.

Speak of reunions? Sure they skip a beat in your heart, but they also remind you that love and loyalty can outlast distance, time, and even despair. Just like these identical twins who didn't know they were related, but we're reunited in the end; or man reuniting with his 19-year-old cat, seven years after it went missing

If stories of loyalty and reunions touch your heart, we’d love to send you more each week.

The identity of the individual who returned Bam Bam remains unconfirmed, and no arrests have been made to date.

4. Stranger pays for elderly pensioner's McDonald’s meal. The elderly man later writes a heartwarming letter to this stranger.

Dave, 42, was at the counter when he noticed an elderly man named Bert struggling to pay for his meal. He was counting his loose change when Dave offered to pay for the pensioner’s meal. He used his own card to buy the elderly man food and coffee. Then he slid a $20 towards him, letting him know that it was for his next coffee. "I was down to my last $20," said Bert. "Hearing that broke my heart," revealed Dave in an interview.

At first, the old man refused to accept, but ultimately he did, while showing gratitude to the real gentleman.

The 88-year-old was a widower and had recently lost his daughter. Dave's kindness in such a hard time may have meant the world to him. He then wrote a thank-you letter to Dave: "I would like to thank David very much for his kindness shown to me in McDonald’s, where I sit and have breakfast a few times a week. Thank you so much.”

"When I looked at that man, I saw my dad, who has passed away. I just had to help him," Dave said.

"Pensioners need our help. I just hope people who see the video remember to do a similar thing in the future.

Life can feel lonely as we grow older, but moments like this show we’re never forgotten. These are also perfect stories to go with your morning coffee.

They discovered it at the border of Uruguay and Brazil. Initially, they weren't sure if they'd find anything of value. But shortly after, they were rewarded with a once-in-a-lifetime gemstone.

"What a treasure," said Marcos Lorenzilli, from the company called Uruguay Minerals.

He later revealed in an interview that they had already received a bid of $120,000 for the matching pair of rocks.
