Maryette McFarland, 90, is known to be the oldest OU graduate in Ireland this year, proving to the world that it's never too late to achieve your goals. She started her course after her husband passed away and after she met with a car accident that left her unable to drive.
“I went to university the first time round about 70 years ago but dropped out to get married. I went on to have four children, and life was busy running a farm, so I didn’t get around to going back. When my husband died, I thought maybe it was time to revisit it.”

Maryette has achieved a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Her advice: “If I can do it, anyone can.”
The sweet old grandmother wanted to study and achieve her a degree back in 1960s in Dublin. But instead she got married and went on to have four children. For her, life later got busy, looking after her kids and the farm.
