16-year-old Jamie Harrington saw a suicidal man, 34, off a bridge in Dublin city centre and decided to talk to him. He asked him “Are you OK?” after noticing that he looked very sad.
“He was in a bad place and all he needed was for someone to tell him everything was going to be fine,” said Jamie in an interview.
He talked to the man for 45 minutes until he eventually let him call an ambulance for him and swap numbers.

Three months later, Jamie received a text from the Dublin man saying that he was about to be a father and he was going to name their baby boy after him, ‘Jamie.’
Jamie’s three kind words “Are you OK” saved the man’s life who later revealed that many people passed by the bridge, but it was only Jamie who stopped by to check-in on him, as if he was just about to jump off.
The man appreciated Jamie’s patience as he sat with him for 45 minutes to just chat and later swap numbers. While Jamie didn’t expect to hear from the stranger again, he had a nice little surprise after hearing back from him few months later.

“We’ll be friends for life now and I am honored that he is calling his baby after me but I don’t think I’m a hero,” emphasized Jamie.
