In 2016, Barbados honored its citizens who reached the milestone age of 100 by issuing postage stamps featuring their portraits.

The people on these stamps became mini-celebrities on the island, and their relatives wanted to send them letters using stamps with their pictures on them.

The one-time campaign became a huge success. The only rule for having your picture on a stamp was that you must have turned 100 years old. It was a way to honor citizens with high-quality photographs printed on postage stamps.

It has now been 10 years since the issuance of those stamps, and there hasn’t been another project. While many posts on Facebook and Reddit have been circulating implying that the project is still ongoing, the Barbados authorities often have to deny requests from family members asking when their elderly relatives will be featured. The authorities have clarified that it’s an urban myth, and the idea of executing another similar project is no longer feasible, as it would require significant time to organize, ensure high-quality photographs, and make sure no eligible individual is missed, a task demanding extensive coordination.
