Woman starts a support group after a stranger broke into her mother’s house and strangled her.
In 2024, a 69-year-old was subjected to domestic abuse in her own home based in Rhyl after a stranger broke into her home and attacked her. So her daughter, Natasha, started a group named ‘Queenie’s path,’ where she could support to all who are facing oppression, from transgender women to migrant women, and the people in Palestine, and to call for an end to violence against women and girls.
It was 10.27 pm, when the stranger named Dean Mears, 34-year-old, entered the house of a 69-year old woman named Catherine Flynn. He barely spent two minutes in the house and the next thing you know is him attacking the woman by dragging her out of the bed and stamping on her neck and face, 15 times. His manner left Catherine defenceless, leaving her dead on her bedroom floor, after 55 seconds of being stomped on.

Apparently Mears was under the influence of ketamine and cannabis, and after killing the woman, he moved on to another house, smashed the window, and killed another woman.
While the stranger denied any responsibility of attempting to kill the woman, her pathology report suggested that her injuries resembled that of a high-speed car crash. Based on this evidence, he is now charged with a 28-years of imprisonment for the murder.

Meanwhile, Nathasha heard the screams of her mother being attacked after watching her ring doorbell footage, leaving her shocked and in disbelief. “I’ll never be able to unsee the ring doorbell footage. You (the stranger) are inhumane, and you will never come close to our family,” Natasha added in her victim statement. “You are nothing but a coward, and I’ll never forgive you.”
Natasha used to consider her 69-year-old mother, as her ‘queenie.’ After the shocking series of events, Natasha made it her purpose to educate others on the effects of abuse, whether on direct victims or on indirect victims.
She believes that the victim’s family, friends, and other close members are as much affected by it than the victim itself.
So she started a campaign named ‘Queenie’s path’ where she could show support to all who are facing oppression, from transgender women to migrant women, and the people in Palestine, and to call for an end to violence against women and girls (VAWG).”
She added: “In the UK, according to the Femicide Census, at least two women are killed by men every week.
“According to domestic abuse statistics, one in four women are subjected to domestic abuse and violence during their lifetime, and one in seven men are subjected to the same.
“We, the people of North Wales, and the police, need more help with the drug misuse on our streets and the mental health crisis threatening our country. ”

“Since my mum’s murder, I want to raise as much awareness of VAWG and domestic and sexual violence, and to support those ‘indirect victims’ as much as possible – family, friends, the community, and to make a little hub or safe space for people to meet, and have ‘wellness days’.”
