Shortest Married Couple Paulo and Katyucia from Brazil Hold Guinness World Record

Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros (31) and Katyucia Lie Hoshino (28) hold Guinness World Record as the shortest married couple, with a combined height of just 181.41 cm (71.42 in).

The pair first met in person on December 20, 2008, in Londrina, Brazil, and tied the knot on September 17, 2016. But their story began much earlier.

Back in 2006, Paulo reached out to Katyucia on the now-defunct social media platform Orkut. At first, she blocked him. But Paulo’s persistence paid off. After many messages, he finally won her heart, and by 2008, the two met in person and began dating.

“Well, it wasn’t love at first sight. But it grew, it was won,” Katyucia reflected.

Shortly after their wedding, their heights were officially verified, and on November 3, 2016, they were awarded the Guinness World Record for being the shortest married couple.

When asked who does most of the housework, Katyucia laughed: “Of course, it’s me. He only does the dishes.”

The couple admits that everyday life brings unique challenges. From reaching doors, handles, and windows to using elevators, banks, and ATMs, their height often makes ordinary tasks more difficult. “There are no ATMs that cater to short people,” Katyucia emphasized.

But beyond physical challenges, they also face prejudice. “We cannot deny that society is biased. We need to be realistic,” Katyucia said.

Even so, the couple remains positive. “The best thing about being married as the shortest couple in the world is the recognition and love that everybody gives us,” Paulo highlighted.

Paulo measures 90.28 cm (35.54 in), while Katyucia stands slightly taller at 91.13 cm (35.88 in).

“We are so happy to be part of Guinness World Records Day and to have our unique record celebrated. We hope our record will encourage the world to look past physical differences and understand that all people should be treated equally,” said Katyucia.
